Politics & Government

There was a thunderous ovation amidst anointing and miracles in the atmosphere; at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Phase two, Site one, Kubwa, Abuja; during their Drama  Theatre's ministration recently.

The groundbreaking drama which was titled "King Igbudu" tells the touching story of a powerful ruler and dictator called King Igbudu (played by Elochukwu Ezeumeanya). The king was extremely powerful and had both religious, political and judicial powers. He subjected all the inhabitants of his Kingdom and beyond to worship and adore him as their god.

And if anyone goes contrary to that, he slaughters such victim or orders the person to be thrown into the lake of fire. He made his palace the supreme court where all cases are resolved; of which he was the judge and perverts justice at will. King Igbudu also had spiritual powers to appear and disappear. He conquered all nations and kingdoms that have ever engaged in battle with him. His power, fame, wealth and influence grew to the extent of making Kings and Queens of other nations, consecrating Priests and Bishops, gifting teachers professorship and more.

People commenced traveling from all the  parts of the world with their problems and heavy laden to seek solution at the feet of this powerful king; such as a man with leprosy (played by Ikechukwu Ogbu) who was healed of his disease with this King's medicine administered by his right hand man and Chief of Amry (played by Greg Ogochukwu) who is the only access to the king and dispenses King's instructions.

The king also clothed a tattered lady (played Blessing Benjamin) who had no clothes with expensive dresses and money.

He declared Operation feed the world from his inexhaustible barn because of a hungry lady (played by Osunlana Oluwafemi) who came to palace in need of food.

There was also a  case of an uneducated lady (played by Adaeze Odogwu) who came in search first degree, he crowned her with degrees up to Ph.D. level.

One day, a barren woman (played by Vivian Amah) came for a child. The king did all he could to give her a child, but all to no avail. He was so furious, palpitating up and down. At the verge of his brags, a loud voice of God (played by Obinna Akalazu) came with wild wind from heaven and bent him into submission.

Immediately, an angel (played by David kings) appeared and gave the barren woman a beautiful baby girl (played by baby Goodness Ibeagha) King Igbudu and his Chief of Army surrendered with rivers of tears to Almighty God who alone can really do all things indeed; Who alone can give and take life. And that was where the curtains drew.

The drama ministration indeed planted a tremendous fear and trembling before the Lord in the atmosphere as cries and applause were heard from the audience. The drama stage was managed by Ifeoluwa Oyesina, while the custumiers were Greg Ogochukwu and Osunlana Omolola. The drama "King Igbudu" was written by Vivian Amah and directed by Obinna Akalazu.

The Thanksgiving Service which had in attendance over 1000 worshippers comes up at the end of the every month as a tradition for the church; and thus the theme of the drama was "God of all Possibilities" drawn from Matthew 19:26 of the Holy Bible.

Other programmes of the Service were a soul lifting sermon by Venerable Barr. Tunde Oyesina, who is the Vicar in charge of the church and Kubwa Anglican Archdeaconry. Plus electrifying praises and worship by a guest artiste; Kelechi Nnam and the St Andrews angelic Choir.

Africa lacks electricity, water, basic infrastructure, there is a lot of progress to be made. And you see the misery, you just want to help, it's no longer a frenzy, I'm not wearing jewelry anymore.
I saw so many people in need, until I feel guilty when I visit Villages putting on earrings that cost 50,000 dollars is useless.
It's just the pat in the eye that only serves to make the beauty in front of others. That's why I decided to use my money to help others.

EFCC stormed Ogboko arrested Rochas Okorocha, his wife Nkechi Okorocha, Gerald Okorocha and Okey Okorocha. The commission also sealed his Eastern Palm University Ogboko.

The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the immediate reinstatement of Mounir Gwarzo, the suspended Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), back to his position.

Justice Sanusi Kado, in his judgment, held that the minister of finance, named as the second defendant in the suit, lacked the power to suspend the claimant.

Mr Kado, who dismissed three issues raised by defence counsel through their preliminary objection, ruled that the suit was not status barred.

He held that since there was a cause of action in the claimant’s suit, he (the claimant) had the right to commence the suit by way of originating summon.

Mr Kado further held that the issue in dispute was not about the position of the claimant as the DG of the Commission, the bone of contention was who had the power to suspend him.

The judge held that the second defendant (Minister of Finance) did not have the power to suspend the claimant since he was not an employee of the commission.

He said that the minister, in the absence of the board, only had supervisory power, which does not include disciplinary power to suspend the DG.

Mr Kado held that it was only the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, on the directive of the president, who had the power of suspension.

For emphasis, he said, “the minister’s role was that of recommendation.”

Mr Kado, in addition, said the Administrative Panel of Inquiry that indicted the claimant was not a court of law; neither was it a quasi-judicial body, but just a body set up for a fact-finding duty.

He, therefore, declared that the suspension of the claimant was null, void and of no effect.

Mr Kado also declared that the recommendation of the Administrative Panel of Inquiry set up by the second defendant, be set aside.

The judge then ordered the reinstatement of the claimant as the DG of SEC to complete his five-year tenure.

He further ordered that the claimant’s salaries, allowances and entitlements accrued should be paid to him in full.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kemi Adeosun, the former finance minister, on November 29, 2017, suspended Mr Gwarzo and set up an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate allegations of financial impropriety levelled against him.

NAN also reports that Mr Gwarzo was accused of collecting severance package worth N104.85 million while still in service in violation of the civil service rules.

The minister said Mr Gwarzo was suspended from office to allow for an unhindered investigation.

NAN reports that Mr Gwarzo however, in June 2018 approached the court to challenge his suspension.

He sought for various reliefs from the defendant amongst which was an order of the court reinstating him as the DG of the Commission.

He also sought for an order of the court for the payment of all his entitlements, emoluments, allowances and other perquisites of the office of DG of SEC for the entire period he was under suspension.

Mr Gwarzo equally sought for an order of court setting aside the entire proceedings of the Administrative Panel of Inquiry constituted by the minister.

NAN further reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had charged Mr Gwarzo along with an Executive Commissioner in the commission, Zakawanu Garuba.

They were arraigned on a five-count charge of alleged misappropriation to the tune of about N115 million and conferment of corrupt advantage on a public officer.

Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf of FCT High Court, Maitama however, on April,16 discharged Mr Gwarzo of the alleged charge.

Joined in the suit as co-defendants, were SEC, Minister of Finance and Attorney- General of the Federation.
As court grants Naira Marley bail application while the condition is to look for N2 million for release bail, social media company Twitter has suspended the official account of the ‘Why’ crooner today, this could be linked to ongoing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission over a credit fraud case

Twitter has not issued any official statement to that regard, but everything linked to his current fraud case with the Nigerian government.

Confusion has overtaken the political atmosphere of Imo state, over the demolition of the Akachi tower, built by the immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha, along Akachi road in Owerri.

However, security agents have taken over the location of the Akachi tower thereby stopping the demolition.

While an eyewitness told our source that the demolition was carried out by the agents of the new government of Emeka Ihedioha, others were of the view that the land on which the Akachi tower was built was forcefully collected from the original owners who on their own decided to carry out the demolition.

According to one Onyenso, “We saw some people last night they were in two Hilux vehicles and some security people. They came and moved around the tower and later drove off.
“Just this afternoon, as we are working on our site, we saw a group of people they came with a caterpillar, and they ordered the man in the caterpillar to start pulling down the Akachi tower.
“They were shouting a new government has emerged and we are taking what belongs to us nobody can stop us. There is a new government, old things shall pass away and give way for a new thing.”
A source who did not want his name mentioned said,
“Let me tell you the truth my brother, I think you are a journalist, this land is not a government land it belongs to some people.
“But what I am seeing here today is like some people are angry they want to take laws into their hand. With the way this thing has started anything can happen at anytime. The government must be guided and be careful of those using their name to take actions. This is taking a very bad shape whether you like it or not.”

The House of Representatives on Thursday called on President Buhari to immediately sign into law the bill which seeks to establish National Commission against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons with the view to curb the influx of illegal weapons into the country.

The lawmakers who gave the charge during the debate on a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje also urged President Buhari to rescind the Executive Order which seeks to remove, revoke and banish all firearms certificates and licenses throughout the country.

In her lead debate, the lawmaker expressed grave concern over unabated insecurity challenges which led to the death of thousands of innocent citizens, resulting from terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across the country.

She further noted that insecurity which was hitherto confined to the North East and North Central states have spread to the North Western States and all other parts of the country.

She equally noted that in response to the local and international outcry and concerns for Nigeria security situation, Mr. President signed an Executive Order to remove, revoke and banish all gun certificates and licenses throughout the federation.

Worried by the development, Elendu-Ukeje argued that the omnibus order targets legal gun owners and their guns without institutional actionable policy or plan to mop up small arms and light weapons that are at the center of these crimes.

According to her,
“the House is convinced that the high number of illegal guns is responsible amongst other factors for the increase in crime”.
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon Edward Pwajork said that the President should only go after those who go about with unlicensed weapons and those with valid licenses.

He said that the Executive Order signed by the President would only exacerbate the level of insecurity in the country.

Also in his contribution, Hon. Sunday Adepoju stated that the security agencies should ensure that all ammunition outside the legally licensed ones were recovered.

On his part, Hon. Pally Iriase, Deputy Chief Whip said that the insecurity in the land was so pervasive and so government should take proactive measures to address the challenge.

He noted that the cardinal objectives of governance “is the security of lives and properties” and added that the timing of the Executive Order was wrong.

Consequently, the House presided by the Speaker Hon. Yakubu Dogara put the matter to a voice vote which was overwhelmingly voted for by the lawmakers.

To this end, the House urged President Buhari to
“sign into law the Bill on the Establishment of a (National) Commission against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons which is not only a domestic law but also a treaty obligation so as to help curb the inflow of illegal weapons that had been used in the theater of wars.”
The Green Chamber also urged
“President Buhari to, in the interest of the Nigerian people who are left vulnerable to the activities of mindless criminals, terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, to please reverse that decision as it strips the people of the rights to life and self-defense.”

Real estate valuation is the process of making a report which contains information about the present monetary value of a landed-property, the size of the building and the structure on it, the general and technical details, the physical status (especially if there are structural flaws) and the cost of properties with similar attributes in the same area.

The position of a real estate property remains the same in every part of the world – An Asset with fluctuating value. Since assets rarely have a fixed value, the burden lies on the holder of the asset to constantly be abreast with its current value.

Considering the number of variables involved, you can only know the true worth of your property when you engage the service of a property valuation firm like Lansar Aghaji & Co.

Regardless of the method used in achieving this valuation, you should take note of the following variables as they almost always hold the bigger influence whenever a real estate property is being valued in Nigeria.
  1. The present state of the economy: Setting aside the construction and maintenance cost of a property, the present state of the economy is a major determiner of a property’s monetary value. In other words, more money in circulation means that properties will command higher amount and better purchasing power.
  2. Political activities: Politics plays a big role in virtually every stratum of the Nigerian society. A political decision/activity can swing the price of properties in any direction. A case in point is the steep drop in the values of properties in Abuja after the 2015 election.
  3. Architectural Design: properties are created with different architectural aesthetics. While some styles stay longer, others quickly go out of fashion. If your property happens to be one with evergreen or the in-demand style, it will most likely command a higher value.
  4. Location: This variable plays a very significant role in determining the value of your property. You can be assured of a steady increase in the value of your property by its mere presence on a particular location. In the same vein, the government or a corporate body’s decision to sight a particular facility (airport, train station, bus parks or industrial site) in your location can also significantly increase the value of properties. A case in point is how the establishment of a train station in Idu terminal significantly increased the value of all landed properties in Idu and its environs.
  5. Date: This is one of the factors the owner or the valuer has zero control over. Properties demand varying values at different times of the year. The same property that is valued at a particular figure in January might have significantly increased or decreased before the end of the next month due to a recently perceived flaw or any other subjective or objective reason.
  6. The valuing firm: Though the value of most properties are objectively derived by weighing the influence of the above variables and many others, having an experienced real estate valuer can go a long way in wrapping the needed sentiments required to give you a more accurate value of a property. Instead of using quacks, LANSAR AGHAJI & CO will help you achieve this.
The factors that affect the value of a property are obviously more than what is listed above. Also, the influence of any or all of the variables involved can change in a blink. It takes an experienced real estate valuer to quickly recognize these changes and take the corresponding action.

More importantly, property disposal and acquisition are not the only actions that call for property valuation. Taxes, insurance, mortgage application and the need to properly set an appropriate rate for a property are just a few of the reasons why we need the services of a property valuation firm.

Do you have any enquiry about property valuation and why you need it? Contact us at Lansar Aghaji & Co via any of the medium contained on our contact page for an exclusive breakdown of the benefits of property valuation and the important things to note when your property is being valued.

While online shopping is yet to be fully accepted by all Nigerians as a medium of commerce, it has grown significantly in recent years to the extent that it not only rivals the brick and mortar shops for sales, but it also threatens their overall existence as a medium of trade.
With its current growth and acceptance rate, online shopping is poised to lead commercial transaction in Nigeria. This hypothesis is drawn from the fact that we are currently witnessing an ever-increasing number of internet users (with over 48 million internet subscribers, we currently have the largest share of internet users in Africa, NBS). Going by this trend, it is only a matter of time before virtually everyone accepts and use the internet as the main medium of purchasing virtually any commodity in Nigeria.
Does the above in any way connote that having a virtual presence automatically guarantees regular sales? Far from it! Just like every other facet of our lives, the algorithms keep getting better and the techniques required to make an e-commerce website visible at all times keep changing. Keeping an e-commerce website afloat now requires more than keywords stuffing for visibility. The e-commerce Website must also be properly optimized for accessibility as this makes it faster for web crawlers to find and go through the website contents and recommend them where appropriate.
With the current growth rate and increasing acceptance of e-commerce website as a medium of commerce, it might eventually take the lion share of the retail industry. This also creates an opportunity for traditional retailers to explore. Shop owners who intend to increase sales and adopt the current reality can combine the gains of e-commerce with that of the traditional stores by having an online medium well optimized to drive traffic to their physical stores and also include delivery in their modus operandi. More importantly, shop owners who intend to benefit from this window should always be on the lookout for the latest strategy designed to perfectly integrate e-commerce websites with their physical stores or seek professional assistance.
For new traders intending to maximize sales in an ever-changing market, there is a need to deprioritize the need to have a physical store (not that they are irrelevant) and focus more on having a strong digital presence. We can help you build the e-commerce store that will always remain relevant. By regularly monitoring clients’ website and familiarizing with the changing realities, you Should know when a particular strategy becomes out-dated and the quasi-perfect method it should be replaced with.
With the highly competitive nature of e-commerce website in the Nigerian cyberspace, you will need more than paid Ads or optimization to continue to stay relevant. Good content will always be relevant. How web visitors are engaged and the kind of content they get will go a long way in determining your sales prospects. How effective are your Audio and visual contents? Can buyers relate with them? These questions and many more should be your guide when you are creating web contents for web visitors.
With the introduction of new technologies like voice search and virtual reality tools among others, the requirement to succeed as an online retailer on the Nigerian cyberspace will continue to be dynamic. To stay abreast with the new wave of requirement you need to be acquainted with in 2019, 2020 and beyond as a Nigerian online retailer or B2C trader, your best chance will be to contact a Professional Web Developer/Designer. We are always available for free consultations geared towards improving your online business at 17, Moses A. A Nigerian doctor who tried to rescue the gospel Minister, Michael Aworosaiye, who committed suicide, has revealed how a CCTV footage of the incident saved him from arrest.

Dr. Daniel Eitokpah's brother who revealed that he was detained after the incident, had posted a series of videos on Wednesday, with a caption that read in part, “My brother, a medical doctor, along with two onlookers were detained for trying to help resuscitate a young man who committed suicide yesterday.

The police have him held for no reason; they named them as suspects, and asked them to write statements without any reason for detaining them.”

The doctor who was saved from arrest by the CCTV footage after he tried to rescue the gospel Minister who committed suicide,  lived in Sunnyvale Estate and he reportedly graduated from Ternopil State Medical School, Ukraine in 2016 and completed his house job at the National Hospital, Abuja, is a National Youth Service Corps member.

On being saved by the CCTV Footage, he noted that the DPO from the moment he appeared at the scene, kept addressing him in a demeaning manner.
“We explained to the DPO everything that happened, how we heard a guy shouting for help and went there. I explained to him that I thought it was something that had just happened and tried to resuscitate him. I explained everything I did to him and his response was, ‘You are a doctor. You should know that you are not meant to tamper with the evidence.’ I tried to explain to him that the information we got was that the guy was in the act; if there was an iota of life in that guy, at least, we should give him a chance.
“Shortly after, the commissioner of police came in and I heard the DPO telling the CP, ‘We have arrested three suspects.’ I felt that the statement meant a lot.
"The DPO, the CP, my father, my pastor and church members of the deceased went back to the scene of the suicide.“God just had it that there were CCTV cameras around the house.
There was one directly facing the entrance of the boys’ quarters where the guy had hanged himself. That was our saving grace. It showed everything—how the suicide took place. Immediately they saw we were not guilty, they made a call to the police station to prepare for our release”

The Federal Government says it will shut down the Enugu ‘Akanu Ibiam’ International Airport due to deplorable state of its runway.

It was reported that the Minister of Aviation (State), Hadi Sirika made the disclosure at a stakeholders forum on Friday in Lagos.

He said the airport will be degraded for international operations because the runway length is not ideal for such operations.

According to him, the market, television masts and free trade zone needs to be relocated for the airport to be fit for safe flights.

The minister also said the Lagos International Airport terminal would be partially pulled down by Julius Berger Limited for major facelift that will cost N14 billion.

This, he said, will happen after the inauguration of the new terminal.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) says it will soon begin a collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) on online transactions.

The Chairman of the agency, Mr Babatunde Fowler, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York on Saturday.

Fowler said:
“soon, we will ask banks to impose VAT on online transactions for purchases of goods and services.
“Not that it is something new; it actually should be in existence.
“We will certainly follow up to make sure that every VAT that is due to be collected is collected.”
He explained that the move was part of measures by FIRS to meet its N8 trillion revenue target for 2019.

Fowler said the agency had started taking action against companies and businesses that refused to embrace the Federal Government’s tax amnesty programme.

According to him, FIRS hopes to generate between N750 billion and N1 trillion from the clampdown, which includes closure of defaulters’ bank accounts.
“We are going after everybody. I am sure you have heard that we have placed lien on some accounts of defaulters that have a billion naira turnover annually.
“So certainly, we are not leaving anyone out of the tax net,” he said.
Officially known as the Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme, the tax amnesty programme was launched in 2017.

It gave tax defaulters a one-year period of grace to declare and settle their unpaid taxes.

There have been complaints by some taxpayers of being wrongly targeted by FIRS in the clampdown.

Asked to comment on that, Fowler admitted, blaming it on “administrative error,” arising from the huge number of accounts involved.
“Well, there is certainly one or two instances where we made administrative error, but when you are looking at over 50,000 accounts, there is a tendency that sometimes an error might be made.
“For those that we made errors on, I wrote them personally apologising and of course we lifted the lien on their accounts.”
On plans by the Joint Tax Board to raise the country’s tax population to 45 million, Fowler said the agency was relying on multiple information sources.

These, according to him, include the country’s Bank Verification Number database and sister agencies with relevant information.
